Abstract
We review the field of quantum cryptography starting from the basic physical principles, discussing the classical information concepts involved, and review the experimental status. Finally, we discuss possible extensions of quantum cryptography beyond secret key generation, given that practical handling of multi quantum bit systems becomes feasible.
