To the Editor: In reference to the report of Sidransky et al. (March 12 issue)1, I would accept the view that the most likely explanation of their findings is monoclonality of the multiple tumors tested. However, the limited clinical histories provided do not allow one to exclude the possibility that the tumors arose from implantation after an earlier transurethral resection. This has been clearly demonstrated to occur in carefully controlled studies of the effect of chemical cystitis and electrocautery in laboratory animals2 , 3 and was not considered in the authors' discussion or that of the accompanying editorial.4 Such an explanation…
