HEADT Centre Events at the World Conference of Research Integrity 2019

Together with image analyst Jana Christopher of IMAGE INTEGRITY, the HEADT Centre team will present a pre-conference workshop on „Image Integrity in Scientific Publication“. The workshop will provide information on how image manipulation has become a pressing concern in scientific publication and will show some of the challenges when it comes to the analysis of more sophisticated manipulations. We are going to present a selection of image analysis tools and discuss both their capacities and their limitations when screening images for potential manipulation.

In an additional oral presentation the HEADT Centre team will present its current work on the Image Integrity Database. The database offers a research environment for detecting and evaluating manipulations in scholarly images and collects data from retractions in a wide variety of scholarly fields. The database thus offers a unique source for the development of software to detect image manipulation and falsification. In the session we are going to present that status quo of the research environment and outline a vision for future work with the database, which involves collaborations with publishers and research groups around the globe.
