N2 - This study conducts a systematic literature review to analyze the application and adaptation of IT governance and management frameworks in the business world. The study examines the COBIT, ITIL, CMMI, and Six Sigma frameworks, identifying success stories, challenges, and factors influencing their adoption. The methodology used follows the Kitchenham approach to ensure a rigorous analysis. The findings reveal that these frameworks have been implemented in diverse sectors and countries, with significant variations in their purposes and levels of success. Barriers such as resistance to change, both at the individual and organizational levels, and the inherent complexity of the frameworks are identified. Facilitating factors are highlighted, including alignment with the company's strategic objectives, positive prior experience implementing other frameworks, and senior management support. It also explores how the adaptation of these frameworks varies by sector and country. In the financial sector, COBIT is preferred for its focus on IT governance and regulatory compliance, while in the manufacturing sector, Six Sigma is widely used for its ability to reduce process variability. This study provides a comprehensive view of the application and adaptation of IT governance and management frameworks in the business world. Although significant challenges exist, enabling factors can mitigate these barriers.
