Abstract

A common source for many quantum communication schemes is that of entangled photons which are most easily generated by the process of spontaneous parametric downconversion. There are many reports on how to increase the efficiency of this generation, however, there are fewer reports on how to efficiently launch these photon-pairs into single-mode fibers. This paper reports on the first experiment on a source based on type-II parametric downconversion for beam-like creation of a pair of degenerate, entangled photons at 1550 nm produced in a 12 mm long BBO crystal.
