Cuidados de enfermería y medidas no farmacológicas para el manejo del dolor en el trabajo de parto: experiencias de mujeres en el puerperio inmediato

Objective To explore how women in the immediate postpartum period perceive the use of non-pharmacological measures to relieve labor pain and the nursing care involved in their implementation, as well as the perceived benefits for the mother and the newborn. Method A qualitative study was conducted through face-to-face semi-structured interviews with 21 women in the immediate postpartum phase. The interviews included 5 questions, which were recorded and transcribed verbatim. The data were analyzed using QCAmap software and Philip Mayring's inductive content analysis method. Result the participants highly valued non-pharmacological measures such as walking, massage, music therapy, and aromatherapy, with the most accepted by the patients. Additionally, the presence of a family member chosen by the patient was crucial for their well-being. The participants identified benefits both for themselves and their newborns, highlighting recovery, early attachment, and the early initiation of breastfeeding. Conclusions The women were well-informed about the processes and practices in healthcare units, which was reflected in their positive perception of the implemented measures, particularly among those who had previously given birth. For first-time mothers, the experience was equally positive, as they were able to choose the techniques, they considered helpful and felt supported by the presence of their family member, which made them feel more protected and less vulnerable.
