Abstract
We present the first experimental and theoretical investigation of transmission spectra for waveguides in a InP-based two-dimensional photonic crystal. The waveguides were obtained as line defects in periodic arrays of holes deeply etched through an InP/GaInAsP/InP heterostructure. The spectra exhibit well pronounced dips attributed to Bragg reflections into backward propagating modes. By fitting the simulated spectra to the measured ones we can estimate out-of-plane losses in the investigated waveguides.
