ARCHITECTURAL POST-PRODUCTION, RESIGNIFICATION OF THE MASSIFIED CITY AS LANDSCAPE: SESC 24 DE MAIO

The concept of post-production shifts its motivation from the creation of "something" new to the creation of new meanings from what already exists. In architecture, production is commonly understood through the Aristotelian concept of Poiesis, that is, the creation of "something" that did not previously exist. Usually, this "something" is interpreted as a newly constructed architectural object. In the case of Sesc 24 de Maio, designed by architect Paulo Mendes da Rocha and the MMBB office, the intervention focuses on the new meanings that emerge from the use of existing elements. This project implements a series of architectural and spatial strategies through the assemblage of elements, transforming the architectural program into its traditional conception. Through a theoretical base and the analysis of Sesc 24 de Maio, the authors defined strategies applied in this project that reprogram the concept of public space and redefine the meaning of the urban context. The expected result of this study is to outline parameters that reframe the use of abandoned buildings to resignify the relation with the city.
