Description
How do researchers choose their research collaborations? PhD student John Fitzgerald at the University of Oxford InFoMM Center for Doctoral Training and the ICSR research team are assessing the role of regional networks in international research collaboration. In this project, topological data analysis (TDA) is being used to study the growth of a scientific field, in particular to examine when and where ‘gaps’ in science become filled in. Understanding these gaps may lead to suggestions for future collaboration opportunities. This topic will use TDA (and other network-based approaches) to address how science evolves at multiple scales, from the field as a whole to individual academic journeys.
