Development of a framework to plan and measure societal impact to align societal opportunities and challenges with institutional priorities in a place-based university

Activity: Talk or presentationInvited talk

Description

Elsevier and the University of Tasmania have developed and are piloting a model to plan and measure societal impact. The Tasmanian Societal Impact Model (TSIM) will enable research and teaching organisations to identify areas of societal opportunities and challenges, rate their strengths to establish importance, and prioritise these areas. The aim is for TSIM to be used to develop place-based strategies to address societal opportunities and challenges, monitor the success of these strategies, and demonstrate their societal impact to external stakeholders using measures that go beyond traditional metrics of organisational performance. The model emphasises collaboration with key external partners around an agreed understanding of the local context, the model of change, investment, data sharing, analytics, and impact measurement.
